Don"t risk losing your treasured E Bike,or copping large fines because you didn't bother to check the regulations in your state.
As most are aware governments are slow to bring in new legislation and E Bikes and E scooters are no exception as they strive to cover all bases. Expect some of these laws to change as states all address their own issues. As a country we have adopted the European code EN15194 with some small variations
EN15194 is the European standard for Electrically Power Assisted Cycles (EPACs), commonly known as pedelec e-bikes. To comply with this standard, e-bikes must have a maximum continuous motor power of 250 watts, with assistance cutting off at 25 km/h or when the rider stops pedaling. The rider must pedal for the motor to engage. This standard ensures safety and quality by also including mechanical and electrical testing for e-bikes
These Standards are for E bikes to be legally driven on roads and footpaths and do not cover bush tracks and beaches (be aware some beaches are deemed designated roads and rules apply)
So what do you risk?
Because many areas are seeing ,riders showing off and speeding, not wearing helmets etc many Policing authorities are cracking down on E Bike/E scooter riders.
I am aware of bikes being confiscated, riders ( or Parents) being fined for not having registration, insurance or a license or causing a public nuisance
